Why coconut oil alone is not a perfect moisturizing choice.

December 17th, 2015 • Posted by Virginia Trujillo • Permalink

I have many times had clients report that although they are only using organic coconut oil as their moisturizer, they are still breaking out and their skin is irritated. I recently found this article that explains perfectly why coconut oil is not the best choice. There is a lot of very scientific information in here but don't give up, plow through because it is a really great article full of very good information.

Keeping Skin Happy in Blisteringly Hot Weather!

July 5th, 2015 • Posted by Virginia Trujillo • Permalink

Summer in Arizona is the season that we need to pay special attention to the care, protection, and appearance of our skin more than ever. Many issues can turn up as our skin cells are exposed to the intensity of the summer sun. Namely, how to protect the structural integrity of the skin and increase cellular rejuvenation to prevent damage during the hot summer months. At Twisted Herb Alchemy, we understand these concerns. That's why we have key ingredients in our formulations to help address these skin care issues.

At the base of nearly every product is organically grown Aloe Vera. A substance of perpetual youth and rapid healing, Aloe Vera contains plant steroids which help in reducing inflammation naturally. Aloe Vera has been used in traditional medicine and general home remedies in recent times to cure cuts, wounds, burns, abrasions, inflammations and skin breakage. Aloe Vera also contains natural occurring salicylic acid and its salt salicylates; it helps to curb inflammation by inhibiting the production of hormones like prostaglandins. Salicylic acid is like aspirin and has the potential of reducing inflammation by destroying the bacteria that cause inflammation. Natural plant steroids and salicylic acid are delivered in the gel of Aloe Vera plant, nourishing and soothing the skin in the summer heat. Great for sun burns, toning, shrinking of pores, and a great source of silicon which helps the skin to rejuvenate itself in the most beautiful manner possible. Because Aloe Vera is so soothing and beneficial to the skin, you'll find it in place of water as the first ingredient in nearly all of Twisted Herb Alchemy's skin care products.

Best tips for a dewy summer complexion?
Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water and wear protective clothing such as hats and sunglasses when outdoors. Don't leave home without your sunscreen. Use a good moisturizer to keep a nourishing barrier between your skin and the harsh dry air.

My summer favorites:
Green Tea & Citrus Cleanser, with it's sudsy lather and light citrus scent it's a refreshing start to any day.
Cucumber Mist, tightens pores and wipes away all traces of cleanser, cooling cucumber scent.
Hydration Repair Serum, helps increase the skin's ability to retain surface moisture.
Power C Serum, a 20% topical vitamin C suspension that provides antioxidant support to devitalized skin.
Skin Brightening Moisturizer, lightweight and divinely scented, this product helps brighten complexions and keep those dreaded dark spots from popping up.
Zinc Day Cream, a completely chemical free alternative to heavy sunscreens for daytime use when you'll be getting minimal sun exposure.

When life gives you Dandelions......

Hold off on the pesticides, those bright yellow bloomed weeds can be used from root to flower! In the spring the leaves can be harvested and steamed as a tasty side dish. They can be dried and used as an herbal tea, high in potassium and a good liver detoxifier and diuretic. The yellow flower petals are also edible and add color and texture to salads and breads.
So, when life gives you Dandelions...
Harvest, wildcraft, cook, and ENJOY!

Check out the link below for a great Dandelion Bread recipe!
